TASK 3- WHAT KIND OF MEDIA INSTITUTION MIGHT DISTROBUTE YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT AND WHY?

Our thriller does not contain huge Hollywood stars or CGI therefore it is considered as a niche film(targeted at a small audience segment). For a mainstream film it should contain big actors or directors, it should use story lines or characters from films or book(Harry Potter) or it should include CGI or stunts or 3D and would be shown in an IMAX cinema.

Our film is an independent film which is produced outside the big film studios. It is produced and distributed by small entertainment companies which might be produced big film companies. Independent films are usually low budget films due to not having any CGi or many stunts. Our film would probably have a limited release and or might be screened at a film festival(Sundance, Canne)

Big cinemas around the world only show films that they think would sell therefore our film might not be global. For example a small english film like “Wild Bill” might not appeal to an american audience because they cannot relate to any of the characters or locations unlike an english audience who probably would. 

A distribution company that might produce and distribute our film might be Vertigo Films. Vertigo Films is a vertically integrated film company which means they distribute by themselves without the help of other film companies. This means they get more money because they do not have to share it but if our film is not successful then the film company might loose money.

Our film would probably only do well in england because we only have small english actors and it is set in england. Vertigo film is a good choice because they have done many dark films and with the success of “the Sweeney” which grossed £4,474,661 which is twice the size of the budget. 

Our film would be advertised online on websites like youtube which is used by millions of people everyday. Facebook is used by millions of teenagers and young adults which is our target audience therefore we would like to advertise there. We hope people would see the trailer and pass it on to friends. We love our film to shown at the “thriller chiller film festival” which would be great promotion for our film. 

Our film would be shown in 2D because we do not have the money to put in 3D. Our film would be shown in selected cinemas not the IMAX cinema because only big CGI films are shown there. If our film did well we might be able to release in Blu-ray but not a collectors edition because only big films come with this. You would be able to buy the films in shops as well as ITunes which is used by millions of people.
