TASK 7- LOOKING BACK AT YOUR PRELIMINARY TASK, WHAT DO YOU FEEL YOU HAVE LEARNT IN THE PROGRESSION FROM IT TO FULL PRODUCT?

The camera work in our prelim was very basic. We only used static shots like this close up shot above except for one tilt shot which is at the start. not visually exciting, slows action done and doesn't really add much to the acting or the scene.
This shot was not thought out because the actress in this shot is off centre.

In our thriller we used a range of shots from close ups to long shots to panning shots which is a great improvement from our prelim. For the camera work in our prelim only one person operated the camera which was not working as a team. In our thriller we all took in charge of the camera and we all took in turns to film which was good because we learnt a lot more about the camera because we all used it unlike the prelim where none the actors knew anything about the camera because they did not use it. For our thriller we used a tracking shot which worked really well and made it interesting for the audience because we had a variety of shots.

We used lots of slow motion shots which lets us see how elegant the ballerina is and this is important because ballet is an elegant sport. The slow motion shots makes her seem vulnerable yet we can see her serious focused face which might put the audience on edge. We can also see her muscles straining which shows foreshadows later events- physical threat, bodies being controlled.

The mise en scene was very simple in our prelim. We used what we could find and not what we needed. If the prelim had been our thriller we would have got proper costumes and would have added make up to the actors. For our thriller we spent time looking for the right outfit and bought it on line which is a big improvement from the last time where we just threw some clothes together. Getting the right costume is key because it brings the realism to it all and gets the audience involved and into the story.
The flower which we used for the cocaine was not very well thought out. Normally the cocaine would not be carried around in a small plastic bag. All the props we used in the prelim were not realistic which meant and it breaks the suspension of disbelief. The acting was good but we should probably have a used a stereotypical gangster like two men because the actors we used did not look scary enough.
For our thriller we got a professional dancer not just any old girl.

The location for the prelim was a quick and stubborn decision because we should not have filmed outside because we had all sorts of sound problems where as when it came to our thriller we made the decision to not film outside because of all the sound and continuity problems. We ended up shooting inside the studio and a classroom which was much better than outside because we had more control. We had to keep stop and starting whilst filming the prelim because cars and planes came by which meant we had to keep stopping whereas in the studio we did not have this problem.

The editing in the prelim was very basic and slow unlike the thriller where we used lots of techniques. The slowness of the editing  in our prelim makes us as the audience bored. To create excitement  we needed the editing to be quick and pacey to keep the audience on the edge of their feet. In our thriller we did slow editing and used cross dissolves  which made the whole thing seem very elegant and dream like.  At the start of our prelim we have a gap between two shots where all we can see is a black screen which is very bad and unprofessional and takes the audience awary from the story. In our thriller we checked over it hundreds of times to make sure there were no mistakes otherwise it could ruin the action.
